In light of the advent of many accounting and tax preparing software, most banks now enable users to download information related to all transactions in Web Connect format. Web connect files can be directly imported into programs like Quicken, QuickBooks, and Sage 50, making it easier for users to manage bank transactions. Quicken also offers Express Web Connect and Direct Connect to communicate and download transactions directly from your bank.

From this link, you can find the list of financial institutions supported by Quicken.

Which method is the best?

Usually, if your bank supports direct connect, then Quicken will use that method by default. Direct connect enables Quicken not only to download transactions automatically but also to make payments and transfers directly through the software.

However, if your bank doesn’t support direct connect with Quicken, then you can rely on Web Connect to download transactions into the software.

Web Connect

To activate web connect for your bank account, follow the steps provided below:

  1. Log into your bank account.
  2. Download account and transaction information in Web Connect (QFX) format.
  3. Launch the QFX file.
  4. Quicken will automatically update the transactions, if it can identify the bank account.
    1. Otherwise, you’ll be prompted to identify the bank account to which the transactions belong.
    2. If you haven’t set up an account inside the software, then click on Create a new Quicken Account

Direct connect has an edge over web connect. With web connect, you cannot make online transfers and payment, nor can you send emails through Quicken. Although these functions are available through direct connect, some banks don’t offer the service. Therefore you can rely on web connect to simply import transactions into your Quicken account and streamline your workflow.
